There are many modern cities in the Torrid (Hot) Zone. The streets are often shaded with beautiful palm trees. People live and work out of doors as much as possible. Many people in the Torrid Zone live in modern houses and apartment buildings. City and town people get their food by shopping at open-air markets or supermarkets. The lesson image shows men from the Torrid Zone country of Ecuador playing cards in a city.

In remote areas, people may live in small huts made of the branches of trees, earth and straw. A few of these homes together make a village. Some of these remote people get their food by hunting in the forest and fishing in the rivers and ocean. They also eat the fruits that grow wild in the forests.

Notebook Work: Label the top of your notebook page with "LESSON 31." Sketch people in the Torrid Zone under a blazing hot sun. Label the drawing, "TORRID ZONE PEOPLE."
